STEM Learning Ecosystems’ National Community Of Practice Convening

Wednesday, April 4, 2018
4:30 pm   -   5:30 pm
Room: Ballroom A

The STEM Learning Ecosystems Initiative empowers communities to bring together unlikely local partners and create systemic educational change. The Initiative invites you to a sneak peek of its National Community of Practice learning sessions, which are normally open only to members.
First, learn about events that are engaging families in Ecosystems communities: Pittsburgh’s Remake Learning Days, Austin’s STEM UP weekend, and Ventura County’s Science Carnival. Common themes include connecting efforts across the country and building family awareness that STEM and STEM learning is everywhere and for everyone.
Next, an honest conversation will yield more applicable principles. As the leaders of cross-sector collaboratives, Ecosystems are incorporating principles of the Engineering Design Process, taking risks and learning from failures so that progress can be made. In this flash-style talk, brave souls from five Ecosystems will share a failure and lessons learned. The failures discussed will range from managing expectations, deepening connectivity, and recovering from staff turnovers.
