Bill Holiber is president and chief executive officer of the New York Daily News and U.S. News & World Report. As president and CEO, Bill is responsible for overseeing all operations and charting the future direction of both Zuckerman owned media groups.
Bill’s career in the media industry began in 1981 at Cowles Business Media, where he launched Inside Media magazine and headed six other titles, including Folio:, Catalog Age and Direct. While at Cowles, Bill helped create the first magazine to be produced using only digital technology, as well as the first media news and information website, “Media Central.”
In 1994, Bill joined Zuckerman Media, where he integrated the sales department across all Zuckerman properties, which then included U.S. News & World Report, The Atlantic Monthly, Fast Company, and Applied Graphics Technologies. After leaving Zuckerman Media, Bill became Executive Vice President of CurtCo Freedom Group, where he led the expansion of the magazine company by launching five titles in the home theater and business-to-business technology industries over a two year period.
Bill returned to work with Mortimer Zuckerman in 1999, this time as publisher of The Atlantic Monthly. He was then appointed publisher of U.S. News before becoming its president and CEO in 2004. Over the past several years, Bill and his executive team have transformed the business model for the U.S. News brand into a digital company. U.S. News & World Report’s rankings and ‘news you can use’ journalism has been expanded in the Politics, Money, Health, Education, Auto and Travel industries. Each of these enterprises has multiple sources of revenue from digital advertising, lead generation, licensing and conferences.
In addition to his duties at U.S. News, Bill was appointed president and chief executive officer of the New York Daily News in August of 2010. As CEO, Bill now leads the most widely read newspaper in the largest consumer market in the United States. Since Bill’s arrival, the transformation of the Daily News has begun both digitally and in print. New mobile and digital product offerings have increased Daily News circulation, making it one of the top four newspapers in the U.S. and the largest in NYC. The expansion of NYDailyNews.com and the creation of Daily News America have quickly accelerated the Daily News into the top ten of all online news websites according to ComScore. Additionally, the Daily News has increased its Sunday circulation in NYC by over 10% with the launch of Sunday Values and a new commercial services division of the Daily News currently prints eight area newspapers at the state-of-the-art printing facility in Jersey City.
A member of the Board of Directors for the New York Urban League (NYUL), Bill also spearheaded a partnership between the NYUL, the Daily News, U.S. News & World Report, the City University of New York and the NYC Department of Education which led to the creation of “A Parent’s Guide to College” a comprehensive guide to higher education planning for first-generation college families.
